Tea Cell Brewing

A great tasting is predicated on a variety of factors.  Two important components that make an elegant tasting tea is clean water, temperature of water and steep time.

Water Temperature and steep time varies based on the type of teas. 

The type of tea determines the water temperature and time of steep. 

Water Temperature: Fahrenheit or Celsius

Steep: Time it take to infuse tea leaves in the desired water temperature.

The allotted temperatures and steep times are based on 1 cup of tea (8oz; 236ml)

Recommend 1 teaspoon of loose tea leaves unless indicated based on the type of tea.

Below you will find the appropriate tea temperatures and steep time for Tea Cells Tea selection.

 White Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 175 F-180 F (79.4 C-82.2 C)                Steep Time: 1 to 2 minutes

Silver Needle

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 158 F-176 F (75 C-80 C)

Max 185 F (85 C)  

Steep Time: 1 to 2 minutes

Aged White Teas

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 205 F (96 C) or 210 F (98.8 C)             Steep Time: 3 to 5 minutes

Yellow Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 167 F-176 F (75 C-80 C)                      Steep Time: 2-3 minutes

Green Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 140 F-185 F                                          Steep Time: 2 to 4 minutes

Genmaicha

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 175 F -185 F (79.4 C-85 C)                  Steep Time: 2 to 4 minutes

Sencha:

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 160 F-175 F (71.1 C-79.4 C) 

Steep Time: 30 seconds to 1 minute                                                                        max: 2 minutes

Gyokuro:

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 104 F-160 F (40 C-71.1 C)                   Steep Time: 1 to 2 minutes

Tencha:

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 176 F (80 C)                                         Steep Time: 2 minutes

Hojicha:

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 190 F-200 F (87.7 C-93.3C)                 Steep Time: 2 to 5 minutes

 Black Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 205 F (96 C) or 210 F (98.8 C)            Steep Time: 3-5 minutes

 Oolong Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 194 F-203 F (90 C-95 C)                      Steep: 3 to 5 minutes

 Puerh Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 205 F (96 C) or 210 F (98.8 C)            Steep Time: 3 to 5 minutes

 Rooibos Tea

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 190 F (87.7 C)-195 (91 C) F                Steep Time: 4-5 minutes                                                                                           *Best: 7 minutes

Tisanes

1 cup (8oz)  1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature 212 F (100 C)                                       Steep 3 - 25 minutes

*Steep longer for berries, barks, and seeds

 

Matcha

Cold Water up to 175 F (79.4 C) Great results at 212 F (100 C)

Use of Chasen (wisk)

*Refrigerate after opened.

 Flowering Tea

Temperature: 212 F (100 C)                       Steep Time: 4-5 minutes

*Refrigerate after opened.

Scented Candle Tea

Temperature: 210 F (96 C) or 212 F (98.8 C)                    

Steep Time: 3-5 minutes

Flavored/Fruit Tea

Temperature: 212 F (100 C)                        Steep Time: 4-5 minutes

Chai Tea 

1 cup (8oz) 

1 teaspoon loose tea leaves

Temperature: 194 F (90 C) to 203 F (95 C)        Steep Time: 3-5 minutes

 Darjeeling

First flush (1 teaspoon of loose tea leaf)

Temperature: 175 F (79.4 C) - 180 F (82.2 C)           Steep Time: 3-5 minutes

Second flush (1/2 teaspoon of loose tea leaf)

Temperature: 190 F (87.7 C) - 200 F (93.3 C)           Steep Time: 3-5 minutes

Premium (1/2 teaspoon of loose tea leaf)

Temperature: 190F (87.7 C) - 200 F (93.3 C)            Steep Time: 3 minutes

 

*Flower, Buds, and Powder Teas should be refrigerated after the package is opened.  

37 to 40 degrees Celsius. (98 F to 104 F)
